Cordia Thompkins West Louisville Talent Education Center; Assistant Violin Instructor Age 21
“The students of WESTEC are so energetic and inquisitive and full of life, and I love making music with them.”
A graduate of the University of Louisville’s School of Music in May Cordia Thompkins is sharing one of her greatest loves — and talents — with students at the West Louisville Talent Education Center. The center is a non-profit community arts outreach program that provides violin lessons to inner city youth. Cordia assists with teaching private lessons to students. The accomplished violinist has performed at Carnegie Hall with members of UofL’s Orchestra and is a graduate student in UofL’s Master of Arts Teaching Program. In the fall, Cordia will be taking her musical expertise to the classroom as a student music teacher at Crosby Middle School. Cordia says her mother has had the largest impact on her life. “She (my mother) means everything to me. But coming in a close second would be my great friends who really are like family to me.”
Shannon Adkins UPS; millwright/construction Age 19
