                                      Age 21

“The students of WESTEC are so energetic and inquisitive and
full of life, and I love making music with them.”

A graduate of the University of Louisville’s School of Music in
May Cordia Thompkins is sharing one of her greatest loves —
and talents — with students at the West Louisville Talent
Education Center. The center is a non-profit community arts
outreach program that provides violin lessons to inner city
youth. Cordia assists with teaching private lessons to students.

be taking her musical expertise to the classroom as a student music teacher at Crosby
Middle School. Cordia says her mother has had the largest impact on her life. “She (my
mother) means everything to me. But coming in a close second would be my great friends
who really are like family to me.”

Shannon Adkins
UPS; millwright/construction
Age 19

“I like making it known that a woman can do a man’s job.”Even though we know women
don’t hold the traditional June Cleaver role, it might be hard for you not to pay attention
to Shannon Adkins and even feel a sense of pride. Shannon is the only woman in a
group of 12 men working to build and install conveyors as part of the UPS WorldPort
Expansion project. Since signing up with the Indiana Kentucky Millwrights training center,
she has learned how to weld and drive powered industrial trucks. Shannon is currently a
2nd year apprentice and will become a journeyman in the next two years.

Colleen Revelette
Certified Personal
Trainer/Fitness Instructor for Yum! Brands and individual clients

stronger to perform every day tasks or they got back

doing my job.”

Encouraging and motivating her clients to take care of
themselves is something Colleen looks forward to doing daily.
Colleen designs, implements, and instructs programs for
individuals and groups who want to live a healthier lifestyle.
She has also worked with handicapped and post-surgical clients.
